A text RPG with an AI game master and a world that remembers you

Following Boris's tip, the hero goes down into the thieves' den and meets Whisper

Talk to the world in your own words — the AI tells the story, the code keeps the rules.

What it does

The world remembers

Defeated enemies stay down, deals are not forgotten. Failure turns the story instead of ending the game.

The world remembers: Boris the innkeeper recognises the cut purse and the grey wax the hero learned about a turn earlier

Honest dice

The code rolls the dice, not the AI — you can’t talk it into luck. Numbers and balance are locked too.

An honest d20 roll: questioning the couriers comes up 20

A constellation map

Places you have visited light up in the night sky; the unknown stays in the fog.

Travel map: Vallemont Square and the thieves' den are discovered

About

Unwritten is a role-playing game with no script to memorise: events play out differently every time, because the story grows out of what you did. The AI invents and narrates; the rules, the dice and the numbers are held by code, so the world doesn’t fall apart.

Also

  • A master, not a script

The AI narrates, plays the locals and answers whatever you say in your own words — no list of canned lines.

  • More than one way through

Every obstacle can be passed with knowledge, strength, words or gold. None is a dead end.

  • Voice or text

Say your move out loud or type it — the master gets it either way.

What leaves your computer

Your moves — text and voice recordings — go to my server. From there the text goes to Claude (Anthropic), which runs the game, and the voice goes to OpenAI for speech recognition.

Your playthrough and the move log are stored on my server.
